Standard
What is AS9100?
9100 series
In 30 seconds
AS9100 (the IAQG 9100 series) is the standard that sets quality management system requirements for aviation, space and defence organisations. It builds on ISO 9001 with industry-specific requirements; the widely used edition is AS9100D.
How does it work?
- It emphasises topics such as product safety, configuration management, operational risk and counterfeit part prevention.
- It stresses control of external providers and keeping records traceable over long periods.
- It expects nonconformity and corrective action to run on evidence and authorised decisions.
Often confused with
AS9100 and EYDEP
AS9100 is a quality management system standard; EYDEP is a capability assessment programme in the defence industry. One does not replace the other.
Common mistakes
- Separating configuration and revision context from the quality record.
- Trying to rebuild the decision and approval trail after the fact.
From a QWorks perspective
In an AS9100 environment QWorks supports keeping the decision and evidence trail, authority and revision context with the record; it does not provide certification.
