What is Audit Finding?
In 30 seconds
An audit finding is the result of comparing the audit evidence collected against the audit criteria. It can be classified as a nonconformity (usually major/minor), an observation or an opportunity for improvement.
How does it work?
- The finding is written on evidence: which requirement, which evidence, which deviation.
- Nonconformity findings require a root cause and corrective action plan with deadlines.
- Closure is based on evidence that the action was implemented and was effective.
Often confused with
Finding and observation
A nonconformity shows a requirement was not met and requires action; an observation or opportunity for improvement points to a risk or area to develop.
Common mistakes
- Closing a finding with a correction only.
- Leaving post-audit actions without a schedule or owner.
From a QWorks perspective
QWorks Audit (in development) aims to move actions arising from findings to verified closure as owned, time-bound work.
