What is Effectiveness Verification?
In 30 seconds
Effectiveness verification is proving, against a criterion and period defined in advance, that an implemented corrective action has actually eliminated the problem. Completing the action does not mean it was effective.
How does it work?
- When the action is chosen, a success criterion and monitoring period are defined (for example, no recurrence of the same defect over a set period).
- After implementation, data is collected and compared with the criterion.
- If the criterion is not met, the case returns to root cause analysis.
Often confused with
Implementation check and effectiveness
Confirming that the action was carried out is a check; showing with data that the problem is actually gone is effectiveness verification.
Common mistakes
- Setting the criterion after the fact.
- Closing the case before the monitoring period ends.
From a QWorks perspective
In QWorks closure is verification, not a record: a case does not close without effectiveness evidence.
